Home Builders Care Foundation

The mission of the Home Builders Care Foundation (HBCF) is to give back by utilizing the skills and resources of building industry members on shelter-related construction for the homeless and others at-risk.

Our efforts help community non-profits and local governments meet the challenges of caring for our neighbors in need.   We leverage our industry’s strengths to save agencies thousands of dollars in the construction process.  We make projects feasible.

Our Mission and Purpose

HomeAid Washington DC

As a chapter of HomeAid America, our HomeAid DC LLC affiliate aims to “build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach.”

A program that provides an alternative way for developers to support  HBCF through the donation of front foot benefit assessments in new residential communities in Maryland.

Our Service Community

HBCF was established in the early 1980s as Operation Tom Sawyer (OTS) and functioned as the charitable arm of the Suburban Maryland Building Industry Association. Our founder, Robert L. Mitchell, believed that homebuilders have a responsibility to serve the needs of growing communities and families and make every home a part of that community. Everyone deserves the dignity of a home.

Since our inception, HBCF has made significant in-kind contributions of more than $20,000,000 worth of materials and labor to projects assisting the homeless and others at risk in the communities we serve. The total value of our projects is estimated to be more than double that amount.
