About the project

A place to heal on the water

Patriot Point is a 290-acre Eastern Shore retreat serving wounded, ill, and injured service members, their families and caregivers, and Gold Star families. Fronting two waterways with 2.3 miles of shoreline near the Chesapeake Bay, it welcomed nearly 600 guests in its first two years.

The main house, built in 1925, needed real help. Beginning in 2019, HBCF led phased exterior renovations to address safety, accessibility, weatherization, and capacity, so the property could keep serving those who served.

The build

Renovated in phases

HBCF and its partners tackled Patriot Point in stages, so the retreat could stay open to guests throughout.

Phase I

Roof & decking

Full roof replacement, premium composite decking, and new metal roofing to weatherproof the main house.

Phase II · 2020

Windows, siding & doors

New windows, siding, and doors in early 2020 improved comfort, efficiency, and accessibility for guests.

Planned future work includes shoreline restoration, a pole barn, a rebuilt pond, a bedroom expansion, and kitchen improvements.
