A mark of trust

Accredited by the Standards for Excellence Institute®

The Home Builders Care Foundation earned the Seal of Excellence in 2011 and has maintained it through re-certifications in 2016 and 2021. The Standards for Excellence Institute® is a national organization that promotes ethics and accountability across the nonprofit sector.

Before certification, HBCF's programs, management, fundraising, and financial practices all underwent an in-depth, independent examination, so donors and partners can be confident in how the foundation operates.

About the program

A Maryland-born national benchmark

Launched in 1998, the Standards for Excellence program originated right here in Maryland and was the nation's first effort of its kind. It examines nonprofits across six major governance and management areas containing 27 topic areas.

Each is evaluated against specific benchmarks and measures, a structured approach to building capacity, accountability, and sustainability that gives the accreditation real weight.
